Festival Description

Unlike other script competitions UKFF doesn’t just give awards as a prize but aims to get their winning scripts into production.

As a previous Feature Script winner Joadie Jurgova says -

UKFF are well known for successfully connecting scriptwriters to the film industry and getting the films made. With 6 of their winners’ scripts made into films (1 of which won an award at Sundance and 2 that went on to win Crystal Bears at the Berlin Film Festival as well as 4 others that have subsequently gone on to be multi-award winning at film festivals around the world including Aesthetica, Bilbao, Galway and Underwire.) The films have been Official Selection in 41 other festivals and several have gained prestigious distribution deals. There are 2 currently in preproduction and a further 4 have been optioned. Their record speaks for itself.

We’re happy to report that the latest Short Script winner made through our competition, "The Attendant" by Stravros Pambalis has now been produced by Centerframe. Another of our finalists "Home Care" by Sam Windle has been made and "Three Guys Walk into an Elevator" by Jonathan Boguslavski is in postproduction. "As I Said" by Jolyon White was produced by 10 Days and our previous season's 10 minute Screenplay winner, "The Choosing" by Emerson Adams will premiere in July.

Most importantly, the winning 10 Minute Scripts and Feature Scripts will be continued to be circulated to established Production Companies and Financiers.

The UKFF Script Competitions has 4 exciting categories.
1) Feature Script
2). TV Pilot or Episode or a One-off TV Drama (60 mins)
3) 3 Minute Script
4) 10 Minute Screenplay

Winners will also receive immediate marketing to the industry in top film markets in Berlin and Cannes, as well as winner's laurels and the associated publicity. Winners in each category will also receive a free script listing and placement on InkTip. Producers have made more than 400 films from scripts and writers they found through InkTip.

Please note that the results are final and we cannot give specific coverage or other feedback about individual scripts.
N.B. Please always supply your contact phone number when submitting.

1) For the 3 Minute Script Competition - The script only (3 to 3.5 pages)

2) For the 10 Minute (or less) Screenplay - The script only.

3) For the Feature Script Competition - The Script only.
In addition you may also include (but this is optional) by email to murray@ukfilmfestival.com - 1) a 1 page synopsis, 2) A treatment /Outline of the script (up to 5 pages) This is totally optional. Please indicate that the script has been submitted on FilmFreeway.

4) For the one-off TV piece (one hour) or a pilot or episode - The Script only.

Awards + Benefits

The winning 3 Minute Script will be considered for production by us and the winning 10 Minute Scripts and Feature Scripts will be circulated to established Production Companies and Financiers.
All Winning Scripts (3 Minute, 10 Minute, Feature and TV Script) will, besides receiving the Winner's Laurels and the associated publicity, be supported by UK Film Festival and their Associates including InkTip to help give this script the best chance of production and promotion. It should be noted that most years since the short script competitions began a winning script have been optioned, has gone into production or is in preproduction: and 6 of the writers' resulting films have subsequently gone on to win at film festivals around the world i.e. 1 has won at Sundance, 2 have won the Berlin Film Festival Crystal Bear for Best short Film - others have won at Aesthetica, Bilbao, Galway and Underwire. One was short listed for a Bafta. The films have been Official Selection in 41 other festivals.

The Winning Feature Film Script and Tv pilot script will be nurtured by UK Film Festival and their Associates including InkTip to help give this script the best chance of production by circulating them in the top film markets in the world such as Berlin and Cannes. Please note that we are looking for further feature film scripts to co-produce to follow up our recent Crystal Bear wins at the Berlin Film Festival. The winning feature script, "The Canadian" by Joadie Jurgova was optioned by Egoli Tossell. This is an opportunity we want to offer to all our Feature Script Winners.

Winners in each category will also receive a free script listing and placement on InkTip. It should be noted that producers have made more than 400 films from scripts and writers they found through InkTip.
